Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is your mission statement?
Threshold Ministries exists to help bring people from all walks of life into a living relationship with Jesus Christ and His people.
Q: I thought you're the Church Army. What happened?
A: On May 1, 2009, the Church Army in Canada became officially known asThreshold Ministries. This took place after many years of debate, discussion and discernment involving staff and board members. In recent years, the name became a barrier to those whom we were trying to reach - many non-believers and believers alike indicated that the name was offensive and irrelevant.
While the name has changed, the mission and ethos of the organization have remained - if nothing became stronger.
Q: Then what denomination is Threshold Ministries linked with at present?
A: Threshold Ministries is affiliated with the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada and is in good standing with the Canadian Council of Christian Charities.
Historically, Threshold has been connected with the Anglican Church in Canada. We value this relationship and the further development of our ministry will honour this relationship while intentionally increasing our additional partnerships with the wider Christian church.
Q: Why have I not heard of Threshold Ministries before?
A: Some might suggest it is because we have not encountered you in prison, living on the street, or experiencing other great difficulties. While this is a central focus of the work, many of our evangelists serve in settings where they are actively involved with other agencies and churches committed to mission. In those situations, their task is to complement the specific work, which does not always include advertising the work of Threshold Ministries per-se.
Q: Do you have missions?
A: We are extremely pleased to be called upon to lead or participate in missions, and equipping events. Threshold Ministries began in Canada with evangelistic preaching as central to the cause. This remains key to our purpose in the 21st century.
Q: Where are you located?
A: We have Evangelists and ministry bases located across the country. For more information on these bases visit our Ministries page.
Our national office is located in Saint John New Brunswick.
Q: What exactly does an evangelist do?
A: The evangel is all about good news, so the evangelist is all about conveying that good news into the lives of people, situations, congregations and communities. Multiplication is essential, so the evangelist strives to help cultivate an environment for others to 'catch' the enthusiasm and passion to share their own faith in the 9-5 of life. Basically, the evangelist works to stir the embers so the flame of faith will burn all the brighter in the church and into the world.
Q: Are you ordained?
A: Ordination has a flexible aspect to it, depending on which denomination we might be referring to. As it stands, our Evangelists are commissioned. However, both signify a sense of calling and sending for a specific purpose. Threshold Evangelists are sent with the purpose of 'doing the work of the evangelist', in the church and community. In a number of settings, Threshold Ministries evangelists have been commissioned as well as ordained as pastors.
Q: If you are not ordained, how can you be a minister?
A: We celebrate the many giftings the Lord has given to the church, including that of the Evangelist. Long before the common understanding of ordination came to be, the church advanced through the work of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. At the end of the day it is not about terms but simply about how best to advance the kingdom of God in the 21st century. If the Canadian Church ever needed evangelists to equip and encourage, now is such a time.
Q: Who runs Threshold Ministries?

Additionally, the National Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization. Our National Office Team working together strive to serve the Evangelists across the country and as well discern the future of the organization.

Many of our donors also wish to receive regular updates and be kept informed on how their donations have helped make a difference in people's lives.
Q: I would like to organise a fundraising event for Threshold Ministries
A: Threshold Ministries is always looking for individuals who are willing to fundraise on its behalf. Banquets, sponsored walks, talks by Threshold Ministries speakers are just a few of many activities that can be used to raise money. Contact our National Office for help in setting up an event.
