Uptown Saint John, and the restaurants who participated in the recent Chop Chop Fall Restaurant Week, were thrilled this morning to present a hefty cheque for $7,004.00 to Lunch Connection. This amount represents $1 per every Chop Chop dish sold by all restaurants during the fall restaurant week this past November. This year, from October 31st to November 6th, 2017 over 25 restaurants in the uptown core participated in Chop Chop.
Uptown Saint John restaurants invite you to come out and experience local food prepared by our ultra-talented chefs. Spice up your lunch and dinners, try a chop chop plate and discover the unique tastes uptown truly has to offer. Extra special delights at three different price levels are yours to enjoy during Chop Chop Restaurant Week!
The idea of Chop Chop Restaurant Week was conceived by a few uptown restaurant owners and chefs who recognized our quality and unique dining establishments. Saint John got it’s first taste of Chop Chop in the Fall of 2009 and we’ve been chopping up ever since.
The inspired idea of offering something unique at consistent price levels caught on quickly. Restaurants recognized this as an opportunity to promote our unique and diverse uptown dining scene.
Home to approximately 25 independent restaurants, all located within a few blocks, uptown is simmering with distinct delicious tastes at varying price levels. Uptown has ultimately become a dining destination with a tightly-knit cluster of eating establishments who compliment each other nicely.
For Lunch Connection, each dollar provides one meal for a child through this program. They are very appreciative, once again, of this significant and generous donation.
We look forward to this bi-annual event continuing to grow in popularity and mouth-watering anticipation.

Saint John Inner City Youth Ministry is a local non-profit organization, established in 1989 as a project of the Diocese of Fredericton and the Parish of Trinity church to provide more effective ministry to the residents of the south end of the city of Saint John, New Brunswick. Shortly after the launch the parish of Saint James also became involved. More recently Stone church, has become a partnering church.
ICYM has since grown to include several of the priority neighbourhoods in Saint John. Our programming has continued to develop and change over the years to adapt to the needs of our communities. For more information about our current programming see our “programs” page.
The mission of Saint John Inner City Youth Ministry is to support and serve children, youth and families through programming that develops them socially, spiritually, emotionally and physically.
Lunch Connection, one of the many program run by ICYM, is a free lunch program that has been established to support the students of local schools in vulnerable neighbourhoods, where food insecurity is a daily struggle. These programs exist to provide a free hot meal at lunch time in a safe environment where children are valued for who they are while connecting with a community that cares for them! Lunch Connection offers physical, emotional and spiritual support to the children, youth and families of Saint John. “Our goal is to demonstrate Christian values in a meaningful and practical way,” stated Erin Hodge, Executive Director of ICYM (and Evangelist-in-Training with Threshold Ministries).
Our goal is to demonstrate Christian values in a meaningful and practical way!
Currently, there are a total of approximately 450 children in three different schools registered in the Lunch Connection hot lunch program and more than 45,000 meals are served each year to the youth of Saint John Inner City neighbourhoods!
In addition to the Lunch Connection program, each Monday ICYM partners with Trinity Church for their “Manwich Mondays” program . They provide a hot lunch program for students from St. Malachy’s and Saint John High. It has become a great place for the kids to socialize and to get a free meal!
