What a beautiful promise we celebrate every Christmas! We worship Jesus, our King and Saviour, who left the glory of His kingdom to come into human flesh for one purpose - to bring humanity the greatest hope imaginable! He gave us His all so that we, in turn, could share His mercy and love in the darkest places of our world. The angel proclaimed this joyous news to humble shepherds as they cared for their sheep in the fields:
Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be for all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10, 11)
What a glorious message for them and us!
On December 22nd, a group from Street Hope Peterborough, The Mercy of God Ministries and Park Street Baptist Church shared the joy of Christ with people who are often cast aside in our society. Together, we assembled gift bags for: people living at our two homeless shelters, men at our local federal halfway house and a transition house for ex-offenders. Everyone had a joyous time organizing the gift packages that were delivered the next day. It was a perfect time to bring a message of hope into the lives of people whom Jesus has not forgotten!
More than 100 gift bags were filled with practical items like a tooth brush, soap, deodorant, razors, socks, hats and gloves. They also included candy, chocolate, snacks and home baked cookies. Most of all, they were packed full of love for the people who received them!
What a privilege it was to bring hope and joy to individuals who do not have a home to live in and who are broken by mental health challenges, poor self-image and addictions. We were honoured to share God’s love in a more personal way at the woman’s shelter by being given the opportunity to sing Christmas carols. It brought tears to our eyes watching the ladies participate in singing some beautiful Christmas carols that warmed all of our hearts!
e are so thankful to Jesus that even the small things we offer to Him become large as they are used to spread the powerful message of His love in the dark places of our community and to see broken lost lives restored in Christ by the power of The Holy Spirit!
May the love of Jesus flow through our lives throughout 2016 as we continue to proclaim the hope of Christ to everyone we come in contact with. Remember, God will use the small blessings we offer in Jesus name to bring about huge changes in the lives and hearts of the lost in the communities we live in!
