In these 40 days of reflection and preparation for Easter, I can’t help but reflect on the practice of almsgiving. This practice started with the early Christians who, between Ash Wednesday and Easter, practiced sacrificial giving. We don’t hear as much about almsgiving these days, but almsgiving is the practice of giving one’s time, money or resources to help those less fortunate.
Did you know that when you volunteer or donate to Threshold Ministries, you are giving sacrificially of your time and wealth. Did you know that when you pray for our projects, you join our mission to bring the hope of Jesus and share this hope with people from all walks of life across Canada.
I am energized during this Easter season that we’ve had a graduate at Threshold House who has finished his program and is now moving into a home of his own. He has reconciled with his family and children and is excited for what the future holds for him after his journey of addiction.
I am continually amazed at the stories of hope I hear from our Street Hope projects, which serve people living on the streets in Victoria and Peterborough. Each week, we have the honour of being the hands and feet of Jesus, sharing hope and love with everyone we meet.
I am humbled as I watch our Chaplaincy Teams work daily to connect people coming out of incarceration with communities of faith and relationships as they begin this new season of their lives. They give their time and energy to walk alongside some of the hardest situations, and God continues to show Himself faithful in the lives of those we serve.
Together, we serve the vulnerable through our projects across Canada, and we are grateful for your prayers and donations. Many of you have donated during this season of Lent – you have practiced almsgiving, following in the way of our saviour who gave his life for our eternal hope.
